Resilience : definition

In IT, the concept of resilience refers to a system’s ability to continue operating, or to quickly return to normal operation, following an incident. In a data center, the concept of resilience goes beyond the mere availability of equipment. It reflects an infrastructure’s ability to withstand ‘setbacks’ such as a power cut, hardware failure, network outage or operational error without interrupting critical services.

A data center’s resilience depends on its architecture, redundancy, monitoring and the procedures in place to respond to incidents. In practice, it enables organisations to minimise the impact of a failure on their business applications, cloud services or production environments.

Resilience: a key factor in a data center
